Misunderstood Browns
Sometimes my clothes-matching ability becomes impaired. On certain days, my browns get mixed up. I think, "Hey, I'll wear some brown stuff," and usually that goes okay. But today, I picked out my dirty brown, worn out shoes. Then I wore a slightly different brown argyle socks, that have some creamish colors in them. Then I wore some mostly-brown pants that sometimes look a little grey. Then I wore a shirt that I think is brown, but is kinda reddish, and also has some yellow stripes. Underneath, I actually wore a green t-shirt, which believe it or not I do not think was the problem. As I was walking around, however, I became aware that all of my browns were wrong, and the outfit was not working. I do not as of now understand why. But it is true. I looked like a mis-dressed life-sized 2nd rate muppet.

Which muppets are the first-rate ones?
Well, the first-rate ones are the ones everyone thinks about. You know, Kermit, Fozzy, Piggy, and the like. You should know this more than I due to your little ones.
The second-rate ones are really more theoretical, since I am not as familiar with the Muppet canon as some.
Like, in a movie that I haven't seen, if Fozzy met a long-lost cousin who happened to be riding the rails and he's wearing beat up khaki overalls and a dusty hat. He probably had some mismatching browns. That's my concept.
I looked like a dusty rail-riding cousin of Fozzy Bear today.
It reminds me of Snoopy (of Peanuts fame), who has a cousin named Spike. Spike is a second rate character in Peanuts.
I wonder which muppets I'd put on the B list. I'd include the ones you named as well as Rolf, Scooter, Gonzo, Sam the Eagle, Beaker, and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew on the A list. B listers might include Rizzo the Rat and those frogs Kermit goes to work with the The Muppets Take Manhattan. Man, I have clearly watched a lot of muppet shows and movies.
Rizzo is a B Lister? Oh the blasphemy.
Pinata, I'm glad you see where I'm coming from. Spike! You totally get it. Kinda like Leather Tuscadero. You would never consider Leather Tuscadero to be an A-List cast member of Happy Days, yet there she was, thoroughly dominating a handful of episodes. Like Spike. Like many muppets in any given movie/episode. Like Moe in Calvin and Hobbes.
So, what about the muppet band? A-listers or B-listers? On the TV show, if memory serves, I think collectively they get an A-list status, but individually you'd have to say B-list. I really don't know the movies at all, so I have to defer to Pinata.
