Out of the House

I am officially a coffee shop intellectual. Well, that's a lie. Actually I'm just an annoying stereotype, a dude with a laptop who LOOKS like he's working, when actually he's just trolling the internet in public rather than at his house. So when I finally do some of my work, which I have not yet done, then I will maybe be considered a coffee shop academic or some shit like that. And that's still not right because that would imply I have a clue when I assure you I really might not. Rather, I'll be a guy with a laptop trying to write reports and papers that don't totally suck, but I won't be at home, 'cause it's too freakin' quiet there.

Yes, I have my laptop. Not quite tweaked out or glitch free yet. But when it works, it's smokin'. A few too many crashes for my tastes right now, but that happens with new computers when you try to debug them. So far, a pretty fun little machine, though.

Ha!

Yeah. More than I thought. But they are fewer and further between, and this thing boots up feeeeAAAAAST. I'll get rid of 'em.

Trying to figure out if I'm stealing wireless access in these coffee shops, though. No one's arrested me yet, but I've got my eye out for stormtroopers.

Philly has wireless access nearly everywhere now, at least wherever I have been. recently someone from out-of-town asked me where he could check his e-mail. I told him, "right there, probably" while he sat on a bench in front of a small church. sure enough he booted up and had net access, from somewhere......

Well, so far so good. No storm troopers after a few forays into the wireless world. Someone's payin' for this service and it ain't me, 'cept for the fact that every other aspect of my life is taxed and charged and fee-ed and the like. And the 'puter was a slight penny. The the grande double bag refresh tea is like a buck eighty. So some of this is free but the rest of it is ridiculous. and i'm not complaining, i'm just saying.

if you read the NYT online using stolen wireless, is it stealing a newspaper?
