I'm the one.

Haven't watched Idol.
Haven't read DaVinci.

That said, I flipped past Idol for about 3 seconds last night...really, not much longer than that...and I have to say, it looked like everyone was having fun. Someone was singing an actual song. Like a Tony Orlando song. I thought the guy was nothing special, but he wasn't horrid, and that's not even the point. People are digging music these days. I have no idea if they are digging good music or bad music, but everyone on the TV seemed genuinely happy and Paula was singing along and snapping her fingers and audience members were dancing and about 30 million people apparently agreed.

So I think it's cool that people are digging music again. Go for it. Feel free to watch for longer than 3 seconds. I don't think anyone is getting hurt that way. There are certainly worse things in the world to do with your more-than-3 seconds.

I haven't read DaVinci (and don't get me started on the whole kerfuffle - not the book, but the kerfuffle.)

But to Idol.

Loved Idol last year. Liked Idol this year. Missed a good number of episodes. The thing about Idol is that it's much more watchable if you've got TiVo, because you can watch an entire episode in about 7 minutes. Here's me watching Idol:

*fast forwarding through Seacrest opening monologue and titling*

Stop to listen to whatever the night's theme was ("Everyone sings the songs of Tom Jones!")

*fast forwarding through the first three lame performers*

Stop to listen to 30 seconds of the guy/girl I think is good

*fast forwarding through three more performers*

Stop to listen to 30 seconds of the guy/girl I think is a hack.

*fast forward to end*

Love the TiVo.

Things I have said elsewhere:

1. Taylor Hicks is the poor man's Michael McDonald.
2. Taylor Hicks will occupy the same role in the industry that has been occupied by Huey Lewis for the past 20 years.
