OH. Jiff: no, no, no, no, no. Sorry. No.

Skippy: If you are camping and that's what they sell in the cabin store: yes. Acceptable. Otherwise, not unless you absolutely have to. Generally not, but can be tolerated with the proper jelly or jam and bread. Not on its own or on toast. For cookies, okay. For peanut sauce in your stir fry, actually pretty good. Not the first or second choice, however.

To remind: until 18 months ago, it was all about Trader Joes. There was none better butter. But then they fine-ground it PLUS it was a bad batch, and it was bad bad bad. They scored points for putting up a sign and apologizing for the bad butter. Many points. And their peanut butter DID improve and got back to good. But to my finely tuned peanut butter pallate, it never got back to the number one slot.

The formerly number two participant...and only behind Trader Joes by a slim margin before TJ's fall from grace...is none other than Smuckers. Now it is really very solidly in the number one spot, it's consistent, and far superior to Skippy, which I guess I have to put at number 4, behind the initially mentioned Wild Oats.

So, to summarize:

1) Smuckers
2) Trader Joes (still VERY good)
3) Wild Oats (good, but smacky)
4) Skippy (even the low sugar is way to sweet)
5) Jiff (kinda like frosting, which is not what I want)
6) Goober Grape
7) The miserable excuse for a jar of natural-ish p.b. that I bought last year next to, I kid you not, the refrigerated pickle section

I have to admit that I can't recall Whole Food's version. I remember that it's pretty good, and it's likely in between TJ's and WO's.

And that is the truth about peanut butter this year.

Dude are you becoming one of those Tom's of Main Burkenstock wearing hemp loving tree Nazis? Wild Oats wont even sell apsrin.

If I could hollow out a Reeses peanut butter cup and spread it on bread I'd call it lunch.
