Sunny Sundays, Craving a Cloud

Is there anyone else out there besides me that appreciates a good, non-precipitating cloudy day? Yes, we all need the sun for our health and our well-being. Of course. But I'm at the point where the sun is physically wearing me out. Here in Chicago we haven't seen a cloud since April. The problem here is that once the clouds come, they stay for a good six months.

But I'm serious here. The sun wears me out. It's so bright it's physically painful sometimes. I can't cool off. I can't sleep. I can't rest. I can't look west. I have literally decided not to drive places because I want to avoid heading west at the end of the day. I avoid two entire rooms in my apartment because I have to escape the sun's laser beam.

I'm happy to forego all precipitation usually associated with clouds. And I'm happy to have the sun come back, and quickly.

But please, just one day with a cloud. One.

Frank Rich goes after it, here. He's a Sunday staple, but this column is especially zesty. And is there any other way to have a Frank Rich?

A very long, excellent article on Bono in the NYTimes magazine. We talked about this sort of thing a few weeks ago, and I think it's tough to find a better example of using celebrity in an incredibly, unbelievably, phenomenally powerful fashion. That's one smart, compassionate, talented dude. This is not news. But this is an impressive place to understand a little more about why.

The Emmys are on, and it's kinda giving me a headache. I'm a TV fan, but I'm not so sure I like TV congratulating itself. A bit much. Make it stop.

Oh Teo, if you only knew the wistful beauty of a low-slung Dutch autumn sky, particularly one sad one back in 1996......

yes, this Frank Rich opinion column is him at his best-too bad its all going pay from now on.

I hate TV and particularly the Emmys, don't get me started!

Having a terrible back crisis, may not be on-line much in the near future.

I know...I'm sad about the NYTimes web site. I get the Sunday edition, but I like to look up Maureen Dowd and Tom Friedman when I can. Alas, it is no more. And no more linking from Tres Hombres.

So sorry to hear about your back. You will be missed here at Tres Hombres. I'll call you to check up. Good luck, my friend!

Well, I seem to be some sort of flawed Weather God. It is cloudy today. Yes! It is also raining today. No!

Apparently my Weather Minions mishandled my order of clouds with no rain. I clearly checked the No Rain box on the Cloud Order Form.

Does no one pay attention to detail anymore?

Oh, now there's a ridiculous Armageddon-like thunderstorm out there. These guys completely screwed up my order.

And I don't think I've mentioned it here before, but I'm completely and totally afraid of lightning, and my building (or one of the other tall buildings next to me)just got hit, and that happens, and it makes me crazy insane batshit nuts, and there's nothing I can do about it, but I am 100% totally completely sure that I did not order lightning.

(Anyone notice that I do a poor imitation of Betsy's writing style every now and then?)

Lightning never strikes in the same place twice, Teo. just run to whereever the last strike took place.

for the record, our summer is simply not going to ead. high of eightty-five, very sunny, not a cloud in sight. I know people who will keep their beach houses through this month as the weather has been so warm.

I believe I might sign up for the times select.

I like the moody days too.

T, sorry about the rain mixup. Perhaps they filled my backorder? But I didn't order lightning either. And I enjoy when you write like me.

I enjoyed watching Teo have a sort-of running commentary on the blog. Nicely done. More fun to watch than the Emmys.
