The West

Somebody reminded me of living out west the other day. Ahh the West . . .

Maryissimo and I lived out in the west for a year and loved it. Big sky, vast expansive scenery, root beer. One of our fond discoveries out there was real root beer. Our favorites were Thomas Kemper’s and Henry Weinhard's the Guinness of root beers. Umm . . . thick . . . frothy. A different holiday gift idea too.

Who reminded you of the west? Someone who might be trying to convince you to move out here?

Love the left coast. Raised in NY, lived in Miami for nine years, and want to stay out here in earthquake land for the rest of my life.

Go west, young man.

I've lived in lots of places east of the Mississippi, but not one location west. If I made a buck fifty a year I'd live in San Fran. There is a .000001% chance I could end up in LA as part of a year of training. I'm not ruling it out, but chances are very small, as I will do my darndest to stay in Chicago. That said, I love the west coast. I've been to most major cities except for those in the PacNW, and I'd live in most of them if needed. I have no doubt that in 50 years I'll be air conditioning my retirment in Phoenix. I prefer that landscape to Florida's (and I HAVE lived in Florida. Hombres!)

Anyway, I love the west. I give it a thumbs up. Took me 4 or 5 trips to LA to "get" it, but once I did, man, I totally see it. And all you have to do to "get" San Fran is to land there. Shit. A heartbeat. Plus a buck fifty a year. And that still might not get you much. What do those people do to afford that town?
