Piano Man

Perhaps you have seen this before. Perhaps not.

If you've read it before and/or are already familiar with the wonder that is McSweeney's, please accept my apology for alerting you to something you are already alerted to. ("Hey, check it out! Air is great!" Something like that, yes.) If you are not already familiar, you can thank me later.

That was a really good one, even though Billy Joel had my heart for a good number of years. Whatever.

Today's is great too, about HBO doing a show "with no edge".

Air is great.

I have so many mixed feelings on Billy Joel it makes me feel bipolar. I appreciate him and can't stand him in equal measure. I've liked some things. Not much. But I totally respect him. Except when he's terrible and ridiculous, and then I lose all my respect for him. I'm telling you, I can't tell when I'll really really like him and when I really really hate him. It's a totally random event in my life, and they both ocurr equally.

But I saw him on Inside The Actor's Studio a few years ago (what the hell was he doing there?) and he made fun of "Piano Man". He rightly pointed out that the song consists of one...ONE...idea played over and over and over and over and over and over and over. And he laughed at it and how people play it when he walks into bars, and he and the piano player always make eye contact because they both realize the ridiculousness of the song at about the third go-round. So for that, Billy gets some 'spect.
